MADONNA SHRUGS OFF RABBI CRITICISM

Superstar MADONNA has laughed off criticism of her controversial album track ISAAC, after Israeli rabbis accused her of breaking a taboo by recording the song.

The MATERIAL GIRL has been inspired by the Kabbalah, a mystical offshoot of Judaism, and has named the song from her new album CONFESSIONS ON A DANCE FLOOR, after RABBI ISAAC LURIA, who founded the Kabbalah.

After the album's release, RABBI RAFAEL COHEN, head of the seminary named after Luria, fumed, "Jewish law forbids the use of the name of the holy rabbi for profit.

"Her act is just simply unacceptable and I can only sympathise for her because of the punishment that she is going to receive from Heaven. The Sage Isaac is holy and pure, and immodest people cannot sing about him."

In response, Madonna says, "I think as soon as you have an opinion that is outside... what is considered to be the conventional way of thinking - as soon as you think outside of that, you're considered controversial.

"I think that I like to ask questions, I like to challenge authority, and a lot of people perceive that as controversial."
