אוזן ה-Apri Sharp משתמשת בשישה מיקרופונים בתוך החלק הפנימי שלה באורך 43 ס"מ כדי לזהות קולות של אנשים מסויימים. ו

And its hi-tech stablemate, the 90cm-tall ApriAttenda, can identify a person from their face and clothing, even from a group of people.

The two prototypes are the works of Japanese electronics firm Toshiba and are parts of its life partner support concept.

The corporation says Apri Sharp ear can respond to a person greeting them and then go on to reply to a question from another person.

ApriAttenda draws up a mental electronic picture of a landscape to focus on a person and then follow them around.

The ApriAlpha range of technologies are designed to attend to their owner's needs, from having basic chats to providing news and weather updates and reading out emails.

Down the line, Toshiba is working on robots that can go on shopping trips and carry items and look after the young and elderly.

The company hopes to have developed these within the next five or six years.
